Agroficient develops Hydro-S, a biodegradable hydrogel for agricultural soil. The material is designed for farmers dealing with limited irrigation, drought and inefficient use of water. It is mixed into soil during seeding, where it absorbs water and nutrients and releases them gradually around crops instead of allowing them to be lost immediately. The company’s approach combines water retention with nutrient delivery in a soil additive. Its published product material describes a hydrogel that breaks down over time into mineral components, and its accelerator profile presents Hydro-S as a biodegradable alternative for improving soil moisture. The intended benefit is to support crop growth while reducing the frequency of irrigation and the amount of resources needed; performance depends on conditions and application. The project originated with students at Baku Higher Oil School in Azerbaijan. The team has developed and tested the material with an initial focus on Azerbaijani farmers, including field work in Gobustan.
