UN adopts Tajikistan's resolution to mark August 31 as International AI Day from 2027

On August 31, 2026, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution initiated by Tajikistan to establish August 31 as the International Day of Safe, Secure and Trustworthy AI. The resolution was passed on that date and will be observed annually, beginning in 2027.

The initiative was introduced by the Republic of Tajikistan, reflecting its efforts to shape the global agenda for responsible AI development. The day aims to promote safe and trustworthy artificial intelligence, strengthen international cooperation, and leverage technology for sustainable development.

The decision adds a global platform to discuss AI governance and ethics. It also highlights the role of Central Asian countries in international tech policy.

Starting from 2027, each August 31 will serve as a focus point for governments, organizations, and businesses to reaffirm their commitment to human-centric AI.
